Founded by Mikhail Valsytov towards the end of the Machine War, The Anatoli Mercenary Group was forged out of necessity during the war. During the War, the "Angel of Io" became a symbol for the many people displaced due to the war. Those people began flocking to Anatoli, the supposed base of operations of the Angel. Pilots, mechanics, and scientists began pouring into Anatoli, eventually making the town big enough to be called a city-state. One of the few places during the war that could be called a Sanctuary, the efforts of the Angel of Io and the other pilots brought order in a time of complete chaos. The city-state began expanding outward, capturing abandoned or otherwise lost Factories and resource mines, allowing for the self-sustainment of their mobile suits.
Despite their efforts though, they didn't have the manpower to subjugate the machines entirely on Io. For what they didn't realize was that there had been little communication between Io and Ganymede during the war, and Ganymede ordered a saturation attack on Io. Hundreds of reactive warheads were dropped on Io, in an attempt to completely wipe out the machines. This attack was done, without regard for anyone still living on the planet. The Angel of Io sortied to protect Anatoli, and over the course of 24 hours, kept the territory of Anatoli safe from the bombardment. While already famous, this feat solidified its legendary status. Over the next year, Anatoli succeeded in subjugating the remaining Machines on Io, and peace was known again.
As the war ended, Anatoli began its efforts to rebuild the territories and cities destroyed by the Machines. The mercenaries, on orders to give humanitarian aid and act as peacekeepers, ensuring no one took advantage of the recovering nation. The leader of Io refused to enter discussions with Ganymede, due to their disregard for human life in their efforts to wipe out the machines. This resulted in Anatoli being declared a vulture group, despite their efforts to rebuild Io.

Born to a family of smithies on Io, Mikhail was raised around mobile suits and became acquainted with them throughout his life. His hometown was destroyed by the machines, and his parents sacrificed their lives in order to let him live. He vowed to take revenge and waged a war against the machines using a Woundwort he found in an abandoned factory. His deeds during the machine war granted him the title “Angel of Io” due to the angelic motif of the woundwort and his heroic deeds.
Many people began flocking to him, wanted to work under him or otherwise be in his protection. Slowly, a city-state was founded, named Anatoli. The population was mostly pilots and engineers, which bolstered both production of mobile suits and people to operate them. Almost a small army was assembled within a year’s time, and Anatoli was established as one of the few sanctuaries on Io. Mikhail was the leader of this ‘nation’ but also the main workforce behind it, vowing to not let what happened to his hometown happen again.
The day the bombs came, Mikhail sortied in the Woundwort with a prototype options pack and protected the territories of Anatoli, a campaign which lasted almost 24 hours. Much of Io’s surface was bombarded, though Anatoli remained safe, thanks to the efforts of the “Angel of Io.”
By the time the war had ended, Mikhail was growing too old to pilot, and looked for someone to take his place. His search led him to Vera Chrysa, A young girl with potential to become a great pilot.

There was nothing special about her, or at least as she thought, but Mikhail saw potential in her, so he took her under his wing and trained her to be a mobile suit pilot.
She can have a brash personality at times, but doesn’t like to show her more kind personality to most people.
