Earth, Location Unknown

In a heavy forested area, a surge of prana filled the air, before the Granzon, war-torn and weary appeared out the aether, collapsing to a knee amongst the trees and brush. The various creatures of the forest scuttled away and birds flew up from their lofty perches. The blue mech powered down, the light that had shone in its eyes slowly fading away.

Moments prior, in the manner of an emergency evacuation, Volkruss used Prana displacement to prevent the Granzon from being consumed by its own black hole cluster.

Tian Di cursed in the cockpit of Granzon, slamming her hand down on the controls.

Volkruss, while not able to speak, watched over the battle in its entirety, and saw the strength of Lasfitot’s apostle, and while regrettably, could admit that Tian Di and the Granzon simply couldn’t stand up to it.

“Why are you getting in my way?!” Tian Di, noticing her voice had returned, called out to the otherworldly being in the cockpit.

“Foolish Child! Take a look at your condition and Granzon’s!” Volkruss scolded Tian Di.

The cockpit of Granzon opened and Tian Di stumbled out of the Granzon and looked at the sight before her. The prior blue color of it had become much more faded, the metal’s natural color showing in many places, scratches, dings, and dents covered the once fearsome mech. It wasn’t any surprise that Granzon was unable to control its Black Hole Cluster. Tian Di hadn’t noticed any of the warning lights the cockpit had displayed during the fight, as she was too focused on trying to fight the Shiseiten head-on.

“...” Tian Di looked in silence. She began to slowly realize the situation she had been in, and if not for Volkruss’ intervention, she might’ve been the second ‘Vanishing Trooper’ incident.

“You need to think more about yourself. You need to know when to fight and when to not.” Volkruss was picking his words carefully.

Tian Di had been taken aback by what Volkruss said, his words coming off as a kinder tone than what she had expected. While she hated it, she was in a way grateful for Volkruss stepping in.

Though in reality, he was merely looking out for himself. Volkruss would be the one most affected by Tian Di’s death, as she was key to his revival. It was an unusual agreement, but their cooperation was required to survive from here on out.

From here, Tian Di was unsure what to do. She knew not where she was, and making matters worse, Granzon seemed more or less unusable for the moment. She had no intention on rejoining with the Directory or the Cult, though she really had nowhere to turn to at the moment. The only one who could maybe help her was the man she met back in China… Gail, was his name or so she thought she remembered. Although she had no clue how to find him. He seemed like a nomadic individual which would only make it harder. For the moment though it might be best to figure out first where she was, and she’d come back to Granzon later.

She clapped her hands together and pressed them to the ground, calling forth several Golems.

“Watch over this area, attack anyone who comes near the Granzon.” She commanded them.
They silently acknowledged her orders and crumbled into the ground, hiding until someone would be unfortunate enough to come.

Tian Di then began manipulating the nature around her with her prana, creating a sort of covering for the Granzon, to keep it hidden from any far-away inspectors. Once it had been properly covered, She grabbed her emergency rations bag and slung it over her shoulders.

Creating a mental marker in her mind of this location so she would be able to return to it, she set off in a direction, heading wherever the path took her.

...

“So what exactly do you want, Volkruss?” Tian Di had been walking for awhile and was bored. There wasn’t much to do while walking, though having someone to talk to, even if she didn’t like him, was a way to keep her from complete boredom.

“Haven’t the other cultists explained it to you? You already know.”

“Sure I’ve heard it from them, but I’ve never heard it from you directly. I’m the only one you directly communicate with, it’ll be good to hear it.”

“Haaah… Would it?” Volkruss took a slightly annoyed sigh and shook his head. “Through the destruction of everything, a new world can be created.”

“And what will happen with that new world?”

“This current world is dirty. It’s disgusting. The new world shall be a fresh slate, a complete reset.”

“And then? Won’t that world just end up like this one? People are inherently disgusting; what’s to keep people from repeating the same mistakes? And even before that, You’re the god of destruction, can you even ‘create’ a new world?”

Tian Di was pestering him like a child would. And began to ignore her.

“No answer, huh?” She teased him.

“So what’s it like… wherever you are?” Minutes later Tian Di tried to start another coversation.

“...Space. If there was something it was like, it would be space.”

“That… sounds lonely.”

“Hardly, the concept is foreign to me.”

“Hmmm...? So were you alive at one point in your existence?”

“I’ve always been alive. Just, not with physical presence on your plane of existence. I wouldn’t be able to communicate with you otherwise.”

“I guess so…?” Tian Di felt like she asked a dumb question.

What seemed like several more hours passed, and little did Tian Di realize it was already light out. She didn’t get much sleep the night before or even before that, and the exhaustion began to take a toll on her body. It was though, as a saving grace descended from the heavens to aid her, she stepped out onto a paved road with a sign on the side saying

“Welcome to Wilderness, South Africa.”

Tian Di roamed the city, taking in the sights and enjoying taking her time leisurely. It almost reminded her of when she went on her own in the Forbidden City, though this place was a far fetch from home.

“So Volkruss, this will kinda become and issue sooner or later, but can we repair the Granzon?” From the outside, it looked like a young girl talking to herself, though at this point, Tian Di could always feel Volkruss’ presence around her.

“A Trivial task for me, however, we lack the materials to perform the transmutation spell. That will be an issue you need to solve.”

“Materials meaning…?”

“Things of similar attribute. The easiest example would be another mobile weapon.”

“How would I get that?” Tian Di asked. She really had no clue how one would obtain a mobile weapon. She had no money nor other means to acquire one.

“That’s for you to figure out.”

Volkruss ‘vanished’ out of her mind, clearly not that interested in talking to her at the moment. It was an understatement to say Tian Di was at an impasse currently. She had not the money nor affiliation to acquire one… which meant that she’d have to resort to… alternate methods. While stealing wasn’t in her nature, it was a necessary thing that needed to be done at this point. She was more or less stuck here until she got the Granzon fixed. Were there even places here that had mobile weapons?

Tian Di frowned and scowled, annoyed at her current situation. “Damn God, only helping when it feels like it.” She took a sigh walked more slowly. Either way she was on her own for this. The first task was finding a place that had mobile weapons.

Tian Di flung off her cloak, realizing it was getting way too hot for the layering she wore in Belfast. While the north was having their winter, it was summertime down here.

“We’ll figure something out…” She roamed around the city, looking for something to aid her search. A sign, a person, anything really. A military base of some sort would be the easiest indicator of mobile weapons, but was there one down here? Probably? With how chaotic the world was, it only made sense that towns had militias or military stationed to protect them.

It could work.

Tian Di began chanting, then in the middle of town, clapped her hands together and pressed them into the ground, creating a magic circle around her. From around her, several 15-meter tall golems were pulled out of the earth.

This is the fastest way.

“Do it.”

The golems spread out and began destroying the housing around Tian Di. Buildings were demolished, fires began rising, screams could be heard all around her.

A chuckle could be heard from in her head. “You’re just like us.”

“Shut up.”

“You reject me so, yet our goals align so perfectly…”

“We don’t have the same goals. I refuse to be a pawn for your resurrection.” Her face grew cold. “I’m carving my own path.”

“...” The laughter continued.

The Golems continued their rampage through the city, destroying everything in sight. It wouldn’t be long before reinforcements would come, South Africa’s finest. Or something like that.

Three Axios came hovering on the ground, to witness the sight of destruction happening in Wilderness.

“...What are these things?!”

“I don’t know…”

“We need to get rid of them!”

The Axios charged in and opened fire on the Golems to, little effect. The bullets deflected and ricocheted off the bodies of the hulking humanoid forms. So long as Tian Di could supply prana to them, the would withstand damage. And due to Tian Di being the contractor of Volkruss, her prana supply was immense, making them nigh indestructible.

“Is something controlling them?”

“There’s a girl… over there!”

“Is she controlling them?”

Tian Di looked up to the Axios, as they seemed to shift their focus to her.

“She must be!”

“But she’s just a child…!”

“I don’t care! Shoot her!”

The Axios took aim and shot at Tian Di.

“Volkruss, how much material do we need?”

“These three should be plenty.”

“...Right.” Tian Di sighed and held up her hand, forming a prana barrier between her and the Axios. As the incoming bullets hit the shield, they were held in suspension mid-air, as if they had been frozen in time. But time wasn’t Tian Di’s specialty. Due to extensive use of the Granzon, Tian Di became acquainted with gravitational magic. The extent of what she could do was more or less limited to ‘levitation’ by means of adjusting the effect of gravity on an object, but it was useful nonetheless for situations like this.

“...What?!”

The bullets fell to the ground, Tian Di releasing her gravitational hold on them.

“Restrain them.” Tian Di commanded her golems, and they shifted their focus to the Axios. They began to move faster, leaping at the Axios, and grabbing their bodies. The Axios struggled against the Golems, which had a hefty weight to them. They then Slowly solidified and became static, essentially working as a prana-enhanced stone prison. Tian Di elevated herself to the cockpit and forcibly opened the door to the pilot’s seat. As she pryed open the hatch with prana, the pilot inside reactively shot at her with a handgun, though no bullets were able to travel far enough to reach her due to the gravitational distortion around her. She pulled the pilot out of his seat and flung him to the ground, and did the same with the remaining two pilots, unmanning each Axio.

The pilots groaned on the ground, but were alive, if barely at all.

“Let’s return.” The Golems became animated again, and carried the vacated Axios on their backs, returning to where Granzon was hidden.

....Meanwhile….

In the modern day, news traveled around quickly. Advancements in social media and other sources made some things spread quicker than news companies could even. Vayne had left the Taskforce Upsilon, and was now scouring his resources to try and locate Tian Di. Volkruss had taken matters into his own hands, forcibly pulling the Granzon out of the combat zone, and tossing it somewhere. As it was done hastily, the location couldn’t be convenient like the Forbidden City, or literally anywhere where the Cult had influence.

It wasn’t long before Vayne narrowed down the location. And of course, it had to be all the way across the planet from them.

“...South Africa…” Vayne scratched his chin. He was currently reading reports of strange ‘creatures’ terrorizing a city on South Africa. Their descriptions matched the Golems that the Cult often used, and Vayne went on the hunch that it wasn’t any old member of the Cult going on a killing spree. “That damn child...” She was making a mess.

Tian Di returned to where she had hid Granzon, with the golems in tow.

“Can you do it?” Tian Di asked the voice in her head.

“We can begin the process.”

Tian Di clapped her hands together and pressed them into the ground, calling forth a magic circle from the ground. Her eyes began to glow with a golden hue, and power began to fill her body. While not quite possession, Volkruss lended his knowledge and power to Tian Di for a brief while, so the Granzon could be repaired.

She held out her arm to the Axios, which began glowing with a purple light. They slowly decomposed into particles of pure energy, which Tian Di manipulated and transferred to Granzon. This process of Transmutation, while more akin to Alchemy, began to slowly repair the damage done to Granzon. The surface became renewed, and it was as if “life” had begin to be restored to the machine. The whole process took maybe five minutes, but when it was done, no sign of the Axios remained, and Granzon had been fully restored. As the process ended, the glow in Tian Di’s eyes faded and she collapsed to the ground, exhausted from prana use.

It had been several days since the Belfast incident, and Tian Di was slowly beginning to adapt to this independent lifestyle. A campfire had been lit in front of her as she was sitting down on the foot of Granzon, gazing into the dancing flame, her mind seemingly blank. The forest around her rustled with the wind, and the wood crackled in unison with the flames of the campfire.

It was all peaceful until footsteps could be heard. They were slow and heavy, yet calm. From out of the brush came Vayne, his tall form and skull mask creating an intimidating presence.

Tian Di was startled at first, but then slowly relaxed. “...Vayne.” Her face gave a complex mix of emotions, both that of a child who disappointed their parent, but also that of a rebellious teenager.

“Tian Di, my child…” Vayne stood across from her, the campfire now dancing shadows off his figure.

“...Have you come to take me back to the cult?”

“You will come back.” Like a parent speaking down at their child, Vayne spoke with a stern and sharp voice.

“I don’t wanna.” Tian Di turned her head away from him.

“What has gotten into you?”

“Common sense, that’s what.” She crossed her arms. “I’ve had it with being your pawn, the cult’s pawn. I’m sick and tired of it all. I will live. I won’t be a lamb for whatever cause you desire.”

Vayne took a deep sigh. “My child, you cannot escape your fate. You may run from it as much as you want, but you cannot deny it. As it has been foretold, it will happen.”

“Fuck fate, I’ll fight it all the way.”

A string could be heard snapping inside Vayne’s mind.

“I don’t care about you, the cult, Lao, none of you.” Tian Di turned her head to meet her eyes to Vayne’s. “You’ve done nothi-” Tian Di was cut off as Vayne surged forward, grabbing Tian Di by the neck and yanking her up. He looked directly into her eyes, as his began to glow a vibrant blue. “YOU WILL COMPLY AND RETURN TO THE CULT. IF YOU CONTINUE YOUR REBELLIOUS INSOLENCE, I WILL GIVE YOU A DEATH MUCH WORSE THAN ANYTHING VOLKRUSS COULD GIVE YOU.” Vayne raised his voice and extended his power far beyond anything he had used before. Rather than subtle insinuation, he brute-forced his will into her mind, a gruesome method of mind control.

Tian Di struggled and choked in his grasp, but as the words continued out of his mouth, Tian Di’s will slowly began to fade away, as she stopped struggling and essentially hung motionless like a doll.

“...I understand…” the words came out of her mouth soullessly,

Vayne released his grip and Tian Di fell to the ground, seemingly having gone brain-dead, she was more or less a literal puppet, who could only be commanded by Vayne himself.

“...Now, let us return.” Vayne’s demeanour returned to normal, and he composed himself and brushed off his hands.

“...Yes.” Tian Di stood up and entered Granzon. The light had faded from her eyes, and her face gave a off a severe lack of emotions.
