The Longinius Group, a family of traders dating back several centuries, to the Meiji-era of Japan, working along with the Americans to open up trade with Japan. Since then, the Longinius Group has made trade deals with almost every country that has ever exists, working as negotiators, middle-men, and transporters. Their influence expanded across the globe, and they then created branch families, who would serve the main family as advisors, bodyguards, and diplomats. Distant cousins, people who had Longinius blood, but were by no means close enough to the main family to have any claim as equals to the main family, were chosen to humbly support the Longinius Group. Their lives would be taken care of, and they would give eternal servitude to the main family, so the contract was written.

Somewhere slightly beyond Luna's Orbit
"Lancea de Longinus" Valstork-Class ship

“Could it have been someone in the branch family…?” Farron was on the bridge of the Valstork, sitting in the commander’s seat, currently in deep thought. Farron didn’t doubt, didn’t want to doubt the loyalty of the branch members, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be smart to immediately cross them off the list of suspects. For that part even, everyone not on the Valstork was a suspect…

Farron had been taught about the Longinius Family’s dealings, and was more or less up to date on current events, but blood runs deep, or so people say.

“Even more than that, what was even in the damn cargo?” There were no accounts of the contents of what was stolen, which made this an even greater mystery. Sure the job looked shady, but the money seemed to be worth the risk… but there’s no point to the money if the merchandise gets taken before you shake hands; even less so when both sides get their brains blown out.

“Farron, Earth is in sight.” Alice, the pilot of the Valstork, spoke up.

“Put it on the screen.”

An image was blown up on the main window of the bridge, displaying the spherical shape of earth. Farron could only whistle at the sight.

“You haven’t seen earth in person yet, have you Farron?” Vallen, Farron’s cousin and captain of the Valstork asked.

“Nothing solid in my head… I was born en route to mars, I don’t remember much from when I was that young.”

“Earth… Ten years ago I never thought I’d come here.” Kiara, Farron’s significant other, spoke up. “I figured I’d stay on Mars… or maybe even go out and explore space.”

“Long ways’ from home, huh.” Farron replied.

“On the contrary, it's the exact opposite direction I had planned in life.” Kara gave a sideways glance at Farron, not the most excited at the situation.

“Hey, hey, let’s relax. Yeah?” Farron smiled and raised his hands up in a calming gesture. “Sometimes you gotta take out the trash before you can go to sleep, ya’ feel?”

“I don’t think I’ll ever ‘feel’ you, Farron.” Kiara folded her arms under her chest and looked away.

“You two are getting along as well as ever.” Vallen couldn’t help but laugh at the routine the two were performing

“That’s why she’s mine.” Farron proudly smiled.

Kiara had no comment.

Since the death of Farron’s parents, the head of the Longinius Family, Farron took over as the head, though only in a temporary position. To officialize the details, the coronation ceremony needed to happen, which needed to take place at the Headquarters of the Longinius Family, where everyone would be gathered to observe the Heir becoming the head. This too was a strategy by Farron, thinking that if it was a Branch member, they wouldn’t show their face at the ceremony.

One thing Farron knew about the failed negotiations, was that it wasn’t a clean job. Whatever group attacked, botched the job, which resulted in a shootout. Were it a clean job, Farron wouldn’t be alive at this point. It’s clear that the attackers were in a hurry, so its possible they only had time to take the cargo and leave. Farron couldn’t find any clues that lead to a branch member, but the attacker for sure didn’t know that. If someone didn’t show, that was reasonable evidence to prosecute. If nothing seemed out of place, then it wasn’t an act of betrayal.

Either way, Farron was going to get to the bottom of this case.
