"Money issues and no jobs. Courses are expensive." That last part was true - pretty much every online learning course she'd looked up in her time in the colonies had a cost that would have ripped a messy hole in her operational budget. The first part.. not so much, but Liana was banking on a Lunarian not knowing the precise state of the Colonial economy.

"I'd rather not dwell on the outside world, though. Half the reason I fired this thing up was to take a break from it."

And if I add any more to this backstory I'll accidentally contradict it later. Faking details on the fly is too risky.

"That sounds bad." He said in an almost unconvincing sympathetic tone. He did not understand the state of the colonial economies at all. He didn't really need to as far as he was concerned. It would be a cold day in hell before he needed to.

"Okay. Fair enough. Well. Let's get moving then." He nodded and continued on the path through the ruins. He stopped short, then stepped away for a moment, the avatar flickering into a duller color. The music of a ring tone faintly invaded the game space, growing louder as James approached.

He answered with annoyance barely held from his voice. "Yes Lieutenant?" His lips turned down, brow furrowed. "Understood. On my way." He sighed. "Sorry, Gotta bail." He gave no further explanation as he logged out, his avatar vanishing from the game. He moved quickly to dress and head back down the stairs and out of the building, making his way to the hangar as fast as his feet could carry him
