Lately there have been some issues in the community with random crashes of PCs. Here's a guide to record some monitoring and read it.

1) Launch perfmon

2) Select a monitor.
There are two system defined ones. Either one would work, diagnostics may be better as it has more monitors.

2-optional) Set stop conditions
Right click your selected monitor and click properties. Select the stop condition tab. This is generally for stress testing or testing specific time frames for whatever reason, but if you want to have it auto stop here's where youd set the time limits.

3) Start the monitor

Have your monitor highlighted. You can rightclick and select start or you can click the green play button on the tool bar

4) Let the monitor run.
The monitor will have a green play button next to the icon now, indicating it is running. Let it run as long as you want/need to.

5) Stop the monitor
Providing the monitor isn't stopped by a computer crash you'll need to stop the monitor. Right click and select stop or hit the stop button on the tool bar.

6) Retrieve your log

Rightclick and open properties, go to the directory tab. Root directory is where your log will be stored. %systemdrive% refers to the drive your OS runs off of. Generally the C:\ drive.

Bonus, the example directory will point you where you need to go.

It generates its own HTML report, but it is not very pretty, is a lot of text, and generally not what I use to asses things. I've yet to get it to work with giving me non broken images. Next post, I will show you how to take the .blg files and convert them into an HTML report with graphs.

6) Click the execute tab, click Finish

7) Youll get a cmd/powershell script launched while the conversion happens

This will take several minutes/hours depending on the size of the log. From experience, about 10 minutes for 100mb files, 19 hours for 1 gb files. When its done it will automatically open the html report in your browser.

Feel free to email me the blg file to convert and analyze for you, or discord/skype screen share and I'll look at it for you.
