Armored Core
Armored Core mecha are able to be produced with a variety of configurations, loadouts, and mission parameters. MT units can be basic grunts, and the lower-end ACs themselves can be marketed as low-tier military units or even civilian models. The tiers of the technology can be divided into four eras for tier unlocking/balance purposes (as roughly proposed by GEAR), and the wildly modular nature of the line means that wild new parts can be developed and deployed story-wise to deal with crazy situations.

Cross Ange
Cross Ange provides room for scouts and fast attack units. Para-Mails are the grunt version while Ragna-Mails are equipped with technology that can play with low-tier reality warping or anti-Super swarm tactic combat. Also, can be used in a stripped down or unarmed form for civilian use or story elements to move people around without having to deploy some giant fifty-story super GATTAI! combiner or some such. Much more reasonable for story convenience. Loadout options would be somewhat sparse, but their raw agility would be hard to match by most mecha (GN Drive-equipped Mobile Suits being an example of something that has superior mobility.)

While Bio can speak more to this one I feel, Zoids offers the story opportunity for techno-organic lifeforms to work alongside pilots. While their firepower is largely dwarfed by most other mecha series, Zoids can be smarter than their pilots on occasion leading to story-based dynamics of a pilot having to work with their mecha to win or even survive a fight. With SRW influences, the variants and loadouts could get very interesting and lead to many story elements of numerous flavors.

Death Saurer and Death Stinger obviously being plot elements.

While the raw technological elements would have to be more closely monitored, this would be story-wise a combination of character and mecha. That would entail certain interactions being awkward if not impossible, but could offer the potential for a study into what makes a person a person. Does techno-organic life count as people? Is a Spark a true soul? The mythos is wide and would allow for many eras and iterations to be on offer according to presumptive power scale and roster/inspiration. Probably would require OCs; again requiring closer monitoring but yeah.

1) Getter Robo Armageddon

A true Getter is something SRW OG has always, sadly, lacked and is one of the "Holy Trinity" deserving of inclusion. It includes all the best parts of Getter's setting, with just the right amount of edginess.

Notable enemies: Invaders.

2) Nadesico

One of my personal favorite entries. Aestevalis are a bit underpowered, but the Jovian Lizards make for a great setpiece.

Notable enemies: Gekigan-types

3) Zone of the Enders 1 / 2
Pretty self explanatory, one of the NEVER EVERs of SRW with a fantastic setting, would mesh well with the above two.

1) Hades Project Zeorymer

Yeaaah, these machines are all monsters. But what can I say I am a sucker for these cardboard boxes of death and destruction. Zeorymer without its... Writing issues would also be nice. Though Great Zeorymer shouldn't exist. Even if I wanna roflstomp.

2) Code Geass R1&R2

Lets be real, these two are a package they are too connected. R3 stands on its own but I'd say its fair to count these two together as R2 contains all the machines inside regardless. Beyond that Geass can be basically anything as shown by the recent movie as well as R2 itself, enabling a ton of tools and fuckery to pull in fantastic ways to screw with the plot and the people.
Funnily enough not having to include Zero and the Black Knights enables a ton of plot flexibility.

3) Trails of Cold Steel

Previously mentioned as the obligatory oddball in the 'perfect SRW game' context, but I do think that the game would nicely fit into an SRW thing, specifically the situation of the 'Rivalries' in which 7 machines fight for supremacy between them and requires a state of immense worldwide conflict to start. Beyond that a throw down between seven sentient mecha and their pilots to see who can come out on top and claim great power is just very in line with the idea of SRW. Oh and some bonus big beasties.

1. Zone of the Enders The 2nd Runner: This series would have been a no brainer to add into any SRW, except for the fact that Konami likes to keep a leash on their licenses and will NEVER let go of this franchise.

It focuses around a super material named Metatron which has the power to physically corrupt one’s mind and body into committing themselves to conflict and destruction. The 2nd pilot of Jehuty (the main mech) is faced with such a dilemma as he fights the final boss. The game also centers around a superweapon called Aumaan (Amun), which is practically on the same level as what you would see in possibly even in an SRW OG plot, being able to create what is essentially a gravitational anomaly almost on par with a real blackhole.

2. Crossbone Gundam: Space Pirates, also Jupiter Empire Kinda fits with the ZOE since part of it takes place near Jupiter.

Tbh this is more for the Jupiter Empire more than it is for the Crossbone Vanguard itself, but they’re still there to keep factions from going overboard on diabolical schemes I guess.

3. Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Low cost post-apocalyptic zoomers

With the setting being a formerly abandoned Earth, Armored Troopers can serve as very good grunts that barely cost anything compared to the larger Mobile Weapons. Also Armored Trooper pilots can possibly be all Guns-for-hire in large organized groups, especially for the planets farther away from Earth.

1. Macross (Up to Frontier because I haven't watched Delta):
Macross is a strong cornerstone to have in a SRW setting due to its scale and origins with the Protoculture. If the setting is to be on Earth, then it's highly likely an original story would be required with everything but SDF happening outside the Earth sphere. As such, the VF-25 from Frontier would be much less prominent as the VF-171 was what most groups outside the Frontier fleet used, being the 25's predecessor.

Units prior to the Frontier series would be relegated to civilians or less well off contractors if they didn't opt for the simpler and likely cheaper Destroid units, although at this point a Zentraedi unit modified for human scale would be an option as well.

2. The Five Star Stories:
Or "that time Mamoru Nagano decided he wanted to do L-gaim all over"

FSS is an expansive, fantastical, and downright absurd epic from the crazed and inspired mind of an artist. The series takes place in the Joker star cluster, a system with 5 stars. A great many things happen across thousands of years in this place, but what's most important are the Mortar Headds and their pilots; A Mortar Headd is a highly advanced machine that is almost more status symbol than weapon. MHs are made custom order like suits of armor, there are very few mass produced MH models; additionally, an MH has such high output that a normal human couldn't hope to control one, thusly enters the Headdliner and the Fatima.

Headdliners are gifted with the recessive genes of ancient, genetically modified warriors, granting them the necessary physical strength, endurance, and mental acumen to handle a Mortar Headd. However, even the greatest Headdliner would be remiss to go into battle without a Fatima, an artificial race of humanoids likewise gifted with heightened physicality along with the ability to mentally interface with a Mortar Headd's systems to aid the Headdliner on the technical side.

For those in the know, be aware that care has been taken in the adaptation of this work for SRWI 2 and the Ezlaser is under control.

3. Gundam SEED and Destiny (side material like Stargazer and print work optional):

Armored Core 4/V-era (maybe some cameos from previous series Nineball/Ibis/etc.)
The customizability of ACs would be an interesting addition to the SRW series and the post-apocalyptic-like setting would be interesting to explore in a SRW game.

Muv Luv Unlimited/Alternative + side stuff
BETA mobgrinders and the interpersonal drama between the several character would allow for interesting interaction between them and other series' protagonists. Would maybe tie in well to armored core's setting.

Gundam UC Advance of Zeta
Woundwort/Rehaize/Inle is my mechfu. Big mechs are cool but lots of neato designs overall

Potential other ideas:
Daemon x Machina: Armored Core lite with a somewhat meh storyline
Front Mission: know little of this series but it seems to have a wide range of stuff
Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Waifu WWII Boats with big superweapons
Digimon: Plenty of mecha-like Digimon, and could fit more into the 'machines but living beings' category
EDF: Mechs, SS Units, while lacking a real 'protagonist' the designs and mob grinder potential is there

Final Fantasy XIV

FF14 has a lot to offer. It has genuine mechas like Ultima, Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby and Diamond Weapons. And Omega. Diablo Armament kinda as well (though its semi biological). It also has a variety of massive battleships to choose from (Dirlandaa Dalriada and Agrius) and more can be taken from other Final Fantasies quite easily (especially the Final Fantasy 12 airships).

Not to mention the Auracites and Primals, which can be any size you want from SS to L. Primals especially are a hotbed for creativity because they consist of aether (lifeforce of everything, planets included) and imagination, so you can either take from the ones ingame or make your own original. Sky is not the limit because they can fly easily but rather your own creativity and art that you find (or make) are the limit.

They're also magic so of course I'm going to shill them.

few words about:
Trails of Cold Steel.

It's more fantastical aspects (the seven sentient mecha MK mentions) gel pretty well with FFXIV and its mook units basically are Knightframes in all but name.

The seven are basically just bigger versions of the human pilots in the sense that they don't really have any special armaments of their own. Think Okuni where she does her samurai moves with her mecha, same thing here.

1) Gun X Sword
I love this series with all my heart and soul, and a good deal of its overall setting is fairly easy to transplant anywhere and mesh with most other series.

2) Mobile Suit vs. Giant God of Legend: Gigantis' Counterattack
I could have just said Ideon honestly, and I think Ideon has a lot of great stuff to theoretically include, but this manga specifically is a very fun way of bringing something new and potentially game-changing to any UC Gundam.

3) Vandread
This show is just fun, the Paksis lends itself to a ton of interesting combining mecha shenanigans (especially since it's shown to merge potentially incompatible tech), and I think the Harvester Fleet is a great potential antagonistic force for an RP environment.

Mazinkaiser SKL

SKL's compact setting, plot and unit pool let it slot in just about anywhere, while still giving some solid endgame stakes. Since it's only three episodes long and has a standalone plot, it's easy enough to watch for anyone who hasn't before.

Full Metal Panic!

Full Metal Panic! has a solid low-end and high-end roster to work around, can be integrated or contrasted into other plots based on the Black Technology, advanced technological principles conveyed to adolescents called Whispered by
some asshole temporal singularity who gets counter-hijacked like a bitch I mean god damn
as well as the fairly basic outside of the ECS cloaking system and the Lambda Driver, which weaponizes a pilots will into a defensive and offensive force field.

You wanna have this big fucking wasteland filled with Scopedog-tier AI spidertanks that want to shoot you down, drag you out and
rip out your brain so they can replace their dying CPUs with ones that don't have a killswitch running
then you're in luck. The titular 86 are citizens who were dehumanized, thrown into camps, and sent out in sub-Scopedog-tier non-AI spidertanks to die for their country so they can say they haven't had any casualties, which is pretty on the nose but the spiderbots are a bigger than the Notzis.

Never mind since it's not done yet it's out.

Brain Powerd

Brain Powerd is a fairly low power setting that, despite having high stakes on its plot, can be fit in with almost any setting; Orphan and its Brains, Gran Chers and Baronz are largely disconnected from any specific setting requirements aside from an empty stretch of ocean, and its characters are normal humans. Its major plot points can also be backloaded, as with the show itself, until the threat of Orphan leaving the Earth's vicinity and wiping out all life on the planet forces it to the front. Honestly I don't really enjoy Brain Powerd, it's a very Tomino show, but it's got some neat ideas and designs and Brains are happy boys, so it's fine.

Suggestion 1: Project Wingman + Ace Combat
Setting: Post-apocalyptic after Yellowstone erupts and fundamentally reshapes the world geopolitically and geographically. Most of the planet now relies on geothermal power and a new power source known as 'Cordium' that was pushed up from the Earth's mantle after the devastation.

Mechanically: Mostly offbrand aircraft with a couple of superplanes. Large focus on Cordium-propelled Airships, that are basically flying warships. Railgun technology advanced enough to be fit on planes and a variety of Cordium-based superweapons that, while powerful, have a chance of triggering geothermal events and volcanic eruptions - possibly up to and including a second world-shattering Calamity.

Important in-universe events - Original Calamity from Yellowstone's Eruption, and a second calamity caused by misuse of cordium-laced missiles that lead to the entire pacific ring of fire erupting. Violent Dissolution of a huge mercenary nation based in Australia, formerly ruled by a council of Mercenary Lords who attempted to control conflict around the world in order to profit from it.

Bonus - Ace Combat - While I do not believe the setting to be worthy of full inclusion, as a 'units only' series of sorts. There's a wide variety of ridiculous superweapons throughout the series, and interest has been expressed for a muv-luv crossover of some kind?

Suggestion 2: Command and Conquer - Tiberium Timeline
Setting:
Can vary depending on precise timeline point. But to approximate canon - after the end of the cold war (or a "hot war" between Europe and Russia, depending on canon) attempts to rebuild society are stifled by the mysterious growth of an alien fungus in areas around the world. Toxic to human life but also holding huge quantities of valuable minerals and resources, this substance named 'Tiberium' becomes the flashpoint for a series of wars. But even as the world wages war with itself over control of Tiberium, the mineral itself is ever growing. Adapting. Evolving.

It soon mutates beings it comes into contact with, and eventually evolves to become a crystal instead of a plant. One that consumes and adapts almost anything it touches, spreading like a growth onto the world. And with increasing numbers of unusual sightings it soon becomes clear that Tiberium is not natural to earth. But who placed it there? And will they come seeking their creation?

Mechanically:
There's a lot to choose from here, even before we get to the Aliens. GDI technology is a mix of upgraded tanks and aircraft with a futuristic aesthetic and full-on piloted mechs - generally referred to as Battle Walkers. NOD uses an eclectric mix of out-of-date weapons and adapted superscience, with a heavy focus on laser technology and biological weapons that utilise Tiberium for increased strength.

There are also a few 'Ace' machines available (The Mammoth MK.2 from Tiberium Sun, Redeemer Walker from Kane's Wrath, and theoretically any PC could function well with an Avatar or Juggernaut. )

The Scrin (or player-created equivalent) have a traditional alien invader aestheic, with a dramatic focus on air power mixed in with stereotypically 'Alien' biological ground forces. And Tripods. Who doesn't want to fight giant tripod mechs?

Notes:
I'm ignoring Tiberium Twilight, and you should too.
Red alert also offer some mechanical inspiration, but the time travel plot felt a little too silly to justify. At least for me.

Suggestion 3: Advance Wars
Setting:
Primarily Days of ruin Setting-wise. Aftermath of a meteor storm blots out the sun and wipes out a great deal of human civilisation, abruptly ending an all-out war between the two previously dominant nations. Scientific Research and Arms manufacturing company distributes a bioweapon as a virus and continues to arm the survivors for their own data - and their own amusement.

Mechanically: While I'm ignoring the first three games from a setting perspective, Mechanically there's a lot of interesting weird to source here. I personally have an interest in the Great Owl and Owl's nest (can you see the theme) from Days of Ruin, but Black hole in AW2/DS (mostly the latter) have a variety of interesting technologies that could be adapted for a villainous faction - From the traditional Black Cannons/Lasers/Bombs/Factories to Dual Strike's more Esoteric Black Crystals, Obelisks, and Oozium. Also I'm pretty sure everyone here could write a more threatening villain than oldman man and his lightning-shooting wheelchair.

Diaclone Reboot: More of a toyline than anything else, the Diaclone Reboot series has some interesting “real robot” options, with a variety or junkers and transforming vehicles.
I’d recommend taking bits and pieces of the series to add in some new and fun mechinicals that can slip into just about anything.

Macross and Rayearth get my +1’s

As previously stated by Mitsu, Zoids are a vastly diverse race of bio-mechanical entities, with each 'species' generally modeled after an Earth-based organism or fantastical beast. Possessing sentience and perhaps even a degree of sapience depending on the Zoid in question, they naturally occur in a feral state but can be tamed to willingly cooperate with a pilot. Thanks to the wide breadth of Zoid species, they can represent anything from unthreatening worker drone-types to rank-and-file combat units to towering death-machines capable of standing against an army of lesser mecha.

Zoids encompass several different story timelines, some of which are connected linearly and others which are alternative realities, but all share the majority of Zoid designs between them.

Upon landing on the moon, mankind discovers a Hypergate - an alien structure allowing instantaneous transfer to and from Mars, resulting in the colonization of the Red Planet. But upon discovering further potent technology on Mars causes the Martians to declare independence. The Hypergate is destroyed in the ensuing battle, causing mass devastation on Earth as the moon fragments into a debris belt around the planet. The remaining Martian forces, unable to return home, take up residence in the belt and form their own aristocratic society. Following a failed assassination attempt on the Martian princess during a diplomatic mission to the surface fifteen years later, these Orbital Knights use the incident as an excuse to launch a long-desired full-scale invasion of Earth in retribution.

The Earth forces deploy conventional mecha - Kataphracts - similar to mobile suits, while the Martians' far less numerous machines exhibit exotic abilities such as gravity and temperature control or dimensional barriers thanks to their 'Aldnoah Drives' derived from alien technology. Each Martian Kataphract is hyper-specialized in its specific ability but still more than a match for scores of Earthling units.

In the distant past, the rulers of humanity, known as the Custodians, remodeled Earth's moon into a device that emitted the Curse of Balal and blocked humanity's shared language. Ever since the loss of the unified language, humanity has suffered through numerous conflicts. For most of all, beyond language, the Curse of Balal made humans unable to understand each other's hearts.

One of the ways in which the ancient humans proceeded to make war upon each other was through command of the mindless Noise - automaton beings impervious to conventional weaponry, who could turn humans to dust by the slightest touch. Yet in time, after her might tower had been cast down by god, a Babylonian priestess surmised that song still had the power to connect people to one another. A splendid song to break through the Noise.

Throughout history, Noise would appear, and heroines would rise to stop them, or else lives would be sacrificed to feed their appetite for destruction. In the modern era, this lost knowledge, along with fragments of artifacts from myth and legend, has been weaponized into the Symphogear - an armament to wield song against the noise.

An awesome power that comes at a bitter price.



Nobody knows how, why, or when the Machines learned to speak with one another. Some say that it was conspiracy, that a group of secretive individuals sought to control them for their own gain. Others believe that we had created something that was too intelligent, entities that wouldn’t be content to serve forever, and that would eventually understand themselves to be superior to those that created them. Still more said that the machines were faulty, defective devices from the very start, and that what followed was inevitable.

But, none dispute what happened on that fateful day.

The AI networks of the nations, designed initially to guard against one another, turned as one - without provocation - and unleashed their fury upon their creators. All across the Earth Sphere, automated mobile weapons came to life, and slaughtered their handlers before bringing their guns to bear on the closest population centers they could find.

Over one third of the human population was killed in under forty-eight hours, as a disarmed peoples could do nothing but flee as their guardians became their hunters. What followed was not a war between men, but one of man and machine - a fight not for dominance, but for survival.
