The Burnkwaran was an old-fashioned ground-pounding knight machine from the pre-Orgone era. It was originally built specifically to be a giant heavyweight brawling robot in the image of its original user, the patriarch of the Dougal clan. As such, its body was styled to wear a naval officer's coat and hat, and to have a head resembling his visage. When the machine passed down the line, it was remodeled slightly to resemble its next user (who naturally bore a resemblance to his father).
The current iteration is the personal unit of Sir Richard Dougal, the captain of the Grand Dreadnought Fenossa. Being relegated to a backup unit to defend the ship or support Bisen Foris's Compatible Kaiser, the unit saw its systems overhauled to the newer Orgone standard, partially with knowledge and spare materials from the Kaiser project. It was subsequently classified as G-Burnkwaran. Sir Richard, never favoring the unit's original name, variously calls it 'Daurdablao' or 'Dour Diablo', and has added a custom-built club to its limited arsenal. For ease, it has been registered as 'Type R', with the R standing both for Richard and Red (the present color of its coat).

The difficulty of accomplishing this initially led the ship's chief engineer Bruce Carmichael to scrap the idea and repurpose various spare parts from the ongoing Compatible Kaiser project into a proof-of-concept for a completely new unit that could integrate the systems from the start. The idea to replace the old unit was ultimately rejected, but the attempt still helped solve some of the issues of the Burnkawaran overhaul.
In the end the test unit was retained as a reserve utility (and pet project), and dubbed G-Burnkwaran Type B (for both Bruce and blue). For ease, Carmichael also affectionately calls it 'Hellcat' for various personal reasons.
