Pierce shrugs. "I'd worry too. I don't know if I could trust them to be on our side a hundred percent of the time. Especially if they aren't human inside." Pierce says. "I personally will make sure those things aren't anywhere near me in case anyone were to take control of it. I mean, if it can be controlled by one person, surely someone else could hijack that signal and change their orders. I'd prefer actual human partners instead of unfeeling intelligence at my side." He adds.

When he heard the announcement, he didn't have time to process the announcement before being dragged by Juliette. But he didn't mind. She reminded him of someone. And the memory was a warm one. He was sure they would become great friends. Especially with their shared interest of Mobile Weapons.

Kaizo smiled pushing up his glasses, "Oh, believe me. It won't" he said walking towards his wife who was confused as to what her husband was talking about.

"What on earth are you planning Kaizo?" Himari asked raising an eyebrow. To which Kaizo answered by giving her a sly smile as he made his way to the Mironga. Himari sighed and looked towards Onryo who was still gazing downwards but has seemed to calm down a bit. Himari smirked and made her way towards her 'son'

Himari placed her hand on Onryo shoulder. "This'll be a learning experience Onryo" she said as Onryo turned his head round expecting to find his mother's bright smile. But what he saw was his mother wearing a face that he had never seen her wear before. She was wearing a frighteningly sadistic smile which scared Onryo so much that he turn away instantly.

Onryo's eyes were wide open and filled with disbelief. His fear instantly returning to him as his 'mother' placed her cold finger under his chin as she slowly leaned close to his ear and started to whisper.

"Shh... You don't have to be afraid. Mother is expecting great things from her little boy after all. Don't disappoint me now, Onryo..." Himari whispered into poor Onryo's ear tightening her grip as she spoke, before releasing him when she heard the announcement. "Run along now. And make sure you make some new friends" Himari said this time wearing a bright smile.

Onryo took a step back. His feet shaking trying to understand what had happened. He looked towards his mother again who was wearing a warm motherly smile this time.

"What's wrong Onryo? You should really get going" Himari said to Onryo who was still frozen. Onryo then quickly snapped out of his trance and started to make his way towards the hangar entrance as quickly as he could.

Himari placed a hand on her cheek as the bright smile she was wearing slowly turned darker. "They grow up so fast" she commented as she watched her son.

Meanwhile Kaizo was watching Himari's conversation with their son as he worked on the Mironga. He let out slight laugh at the sight of Onryo's reaction. "About time you dropped the act" he commented as he continued working on the Mironga

Johanna was visibly worried at what Pierce and Juliette said, she calmed herself after a moment. Reasoning that the Directory wouldn't have used them if they weren't confident in their reliability.

"Well, unsettling as they might be if it was that easy to take control I don't think that they'd be used alongside us right? You don't want the group you appoint to such a task turning upon itself. And don't worry too much, I probably also worry too much."

With the announcement of the show a sigh of relief escaped the woman's lips, some distraction would be nice right about now and seeing how they'd go about removing those monsters was also nice. The Ensign would return the smile and her hand went off the bag and held Juliette smiling back.

"Yeah, lets go watch the demonstration."

It was a pitch black scene. Tian Di could only see herself, the dark void obscured everything beyond her own self. It wasn’t the first time she had this kind of dream. As of recently, this was a common occurrence, and was partially one of the reasons why she couldn’t sleep on the flight over.

“mY chIlD, tHe tiMe iS soON…” A powerful voice spoke out from the darkness.

“...” Tian Di remained silent.

“mY sErvAntS aRE quIte rEliAblE…” the voice rang out again.

Doubt filled Tian Di more than ever. She never really thought of the prospect of death, until recently. She always knew this would happen, it was her destiny. But was she really okay with dying? The idea became more and more frightening as her days went on, it was amazing she hadn’t had a mental breakdown by this point.

“yOuR saCrIfiCe wIlL bRiNG abOuT tHe NeW wOrLD.” While not visible, one probably could see the voice smiling.

“Call it an arrogant streak, but, me? I’d fight it - Every step of the way.”

Tian Di recalled the words of the man she met in the Forbidden City. Was destiny something she could fight? Even if it was possible, could she win?

“You have… doubts, child.” A softer, more calming voice spoke out.

“Has this not been what you’ve worked for your whole life? Everyone has a purpose in life, and its their role to fulfill that purpose purpose the best they can.”

“Even if that purpose results in their death?” Tian Di finally cried out, tears beginning form at the corner of her eyes.

“Martyrdom isn’t a new concept in this world. Millions of people have died in order to fulfill their purpose in life.”

“But what if I don’t want to die?!”

“All humans die at some point, you’re not special in any way.”
“But not yet…” Tian Di’s voice became dejected as the well of tears finally began descending down her cheeks.

“Fate is inevitable.”

“...But-”

“What can you do in your position, child? Your fate was sealed the moment your ancestors made that deal.”
`
“...”

“And don’t forget the power I loan you through your little… toy.”

“I never asked for any of this!” Tian Di spoke out again.

“You didn’t need to. It’s unfortunate, but you were damned from the moment you were born.”

“...” Something began boiling up inside Tian Di. It was something she hadn’t felt before. A potpourri of emotions welled up inside her, filling to the brim, and finally, something ‘snapped’.

“Your only option is-”

“SHUT UP-!” Tian Di shouted at the top of her lungs.

“YoU DaRE To OPpoSe M-”

His speaking was interrupted as Tian Di woke up, finding herself in a bed, in a room alone.

“...I’m done.” Tian Di stood up and went to the sink to wash her face, and as she looked at herself in the mirror, she gave off an expression that was unlike any she had made before… though it didn’t look bad.

As Rogers did his short announcement Slask locked eyes with Kvinna for a moment before turning away, briskly walking towards Fabularis. Kvinna for her part hurriedly started climbing a ladder back down to surface level, the long way down giving her ample time to think on how hard she would punch Huvud the next time they met face to face. Still, on the way down she had to educate the good Brigadier General. "Brigadier General, Johan is not a doctor!" she called out, only sounding slightly annoyed as she did so.

Inside Fabularis, Slask sat down on the seat in the cockpit. It always brought him comfort, he was-

'Home? You think the cockpit of a Mobile Weapon as your home?' Johan asked incredulously.

Slask frowned, the question annoyed him. 'I was born here, I grew in strength here, these factors make it my home.'

'I'm surprised you even know what a 'home' is.' Johan commented. 'Though speaking of your birth...You say that this Lord of Ruin of yours made you?'

'Yes.' Slask answered warily. He had a terrible feeling about this.

'Right, so wouldn't that make me and Lord of Ruin your parents and me your mother?' Johan continued.

Slask froze. Frowning once more, he took his time before answering. 'This conversation is over. We will never speak of this again, it never even happened.'

'....Yeah, you're right. That was a disgusting line of thought. This never happened.' An intense shudder ran through their body as for the first time the two souls were in full agreement.

Fabularis shifted. It moved slowly, Slask taking great care to not surprise anyone. As it moved, the room temperature near it dropped several degrees. It came to a stop in front of the Lamalice Box™

Taking a deep breath Slask activated Fabularis' speakers. The demonstration was about to begin. "Good day and well met, fellow members of Taskforce Upsilon. I am Johan Munsö. A few days ago, I spoke for D.A.R.C. - Directory Antarctic Research Center - promising aid against the Lamalice. Today Kvinna and I will give a demonstration of the technology in action. Worry not, this is perfectly safe for you. Kvinna, if you would?"

Scoffing, Kvinna who was standing near the box went through her pockets and digging up a controller. Pressing a button, the side of the box facing Fabularis opened to reveal a Lamalice behind thick iron bars. The Lamalice moaned as it saw the crowd before it, attempting to dash to them only to be stopped by the iron bars in front of it. Kvinna turned to Fabularis, giving it a mocking bow.

Fabularis' left arm rose, aiming in front of the Lamalice with the large rifle it was grasping. The barrel lit up in a blue glow and lightning coursed over its length. A small ball, roughly the size of the Lamalice's mouth, shot forth. The ball was dark purple and seemed to almost...pulsate at times. It landed between the bars in front of the Lamalice with a dull thud, the Triclaw's attention immediately turning to it. As it began feasting on the condensed ball of negative energy a dark smoke started rising from its body.

Fabularis lowered its arm. "What you're seeing here..." Slask started explaining as more and more smoke from the Lamalice started to conceal it from sight. "Is the technology we have developed. Our Mobile Weapons can shoot small devices coated with negative energy. The negative energy functions as a bait for the Lamalice, rendering it a non-threat while it is feasting on the food given to it. During this time you can easily either kill it or let the device do its work. The device itself is a....beacon, an enabler. The Lamalice are more or less just negative energy given form and the need to feed and grow. Their makeup allows us to send them towards our research center as energy. More often than not, the Lamalice dissipate on the way there as they are unable to keep the energy together to materialize again after their journey."

At this point the smoke had dissipated. The Lamalice had vanished without a trace. "If the Lamalice have gathered enough negative energy however, they survive the journey intact and will rematerialize at the research center, where they will be contained and after a short research period be exterminated."

Kvinna pressed a button on her controller again and the wall was raised again. She turned to the crowd with a malicious grin. "And that concludes our presentation. Any questions on specifics of the mechanism and how it works should be directed towards the official channels of the Directory Antarctic Research Center as Slask has no knowledge of the specifics and I am not allowed to speak of them. I will be more than happy to aid you in contacting the Chief of Staff however."

As Kvinna finished her bit, Johan emerged from Fabularis. He gave an easy grin to everyone around him, speaking vibrantly. "Terribly sorry Delcroix, it is not my fault that Karl decided to make me our spokesman instead of someone that knew more about these things!"

'As per our agreement I'm taking the control back now.' Slask said in their mind. The body shuddered as its ownership, that had been lent to Johan for a short while, was taken back.

Staff members assembled to watch the demonstration, filling the hangar as the did so. When the Lamalice's form was revealed, an audible gasp filled the room, and people visibly recoiled from the thing's foul presence as it mouthed soundlessly at them from its prison. Juliette reflexively reached out, grasping Pierce's arm - before she realized what she had done, flushing a deep scarlet and flashing him an apologetic look. All were filled with fear and disgust... but Rogers himself, it seemed, whose eyes bored into the Lamalice's own unflinchingly.

The demonstration was absorbed by the crowd, a collective sigh going up as it disappeared from view - but at Johan's explanation, a number of uneasy mumblings began to take place. Juliette looked deep in thought, biting down on her knuckle as she said under her breath, "Negative energy...?" - it was an unfamiliar term, and as she looked upon the Fabularis, that sense of uncertainty seemed to grow even deeper in her. Similar sentiments were echoed throughout the hangar... Until a loud voice called out from the rear.

"ATTEN-SHUN!"

A hundred or so heels clicked together reflexively, as the soldiery of the Directory turned to face the source. His features framed by the fading light, Brigadier General Rogers surveyed his force with a steely gaze.

"Soldiers of Taskforce Upsilon..." He called out, crisply, "Many of you have questions, I realize that. There are a great deal of uncertainties afoot... But now is not the time for deliberation. The longer we spend waiting for a perfect solution, the more innocent lives are threatened by these abominations."

He stopped, and his cane was driven into the floor, sending a metal note ringing out as he looked at each of them in turn - Johan. Onryo. Johanna. Pierce - everyone in the audience would feel as though he were speaking to them personally.

"We are the Earth's best hope." He continued, emphatically; "As of this moment, the Institute's device is the only chance at stopping the Lamalice we've got. For now, we have no choice but to place our trust in them. I expect you all to cooperate. I do not require that you like it, only that you follow orders."

At that, his message delivered, Rogers reached up and adjusted his hat, clearing his throat.

"We leave to complete our initial assignment in 48 hours. Use them wisely."

Pierce was surprised by what just went down. The thing that stuck with him the most was Negative Energy and what it could be. He never heard of that term before. As he heard the captain say they had 48 hours before they leave, he thought about something else in silence. Finally, after a little while, he spoke to Juliette and Johanna.
"Forty-eight hours, huh? I suggest, we tweak our mobile weapons, settle in, and all that stuff." Pierce suggests to Johanna. "I mean, we do have the time." He adds.
Pierce looks at Juliette now.
"Do you think you could help with testing my Grungust in about..." He trails off, thinking about how long it should take to find his quarters. "Maybe fifteen? Twenty minutes? I honestly don't know how long it'll take for me to find my quarters to drop my stuff off." He gives a sheepish chuckle.

After the message Onryo walked away from the crowd and laid his back against a wall crossing his arms. Lost and confused as to what's happening. Until yesterday all he had to worry about is interacting with people at school, but now...

"What was that..." Onryo muttered gritting his teeth as he thought about the Lamalice, before catching a glimpse of Pierce who walked up to Johanna and casually spoke to her without a care in the world

"Are these people for real? We just saw a monster right in front of us and they're acting like nothing happened!" Onryo thought as he watched them

Onryo looked downward, trying to calm himself down. He then took a deep breath and sighed. "I should at least try to fit in..." he said as he made his way towards the group.

"Hi" Onryu greeted them as he approached with a smile.

Meanwhile...

"Kaizo, what do you plan on showing the Director?" Himari asked Kaizo frustrated as she grabbed his sleeve.

"Oh dear... Do you not trust your own husband? The love of your life?" Kaizo replied teasingly with an over-exaggerated pose.

"No.... No, I don't...Now tell me...What are you hiding from me Kaizo..." Himari said grabbing Kaizo shoulder, smiling but her eyes showed killing intent.

"OK! OK!" Kaizo said as he quickly passed Himari his tablet. Kaizo shrugged "Well..Now I know what happened to my ex..." he muttered.

"What was that?" Himari said as she turned towards Kaizo.

"Nothing!" Kaizo declared on reflex. Which made his wife turn her attention to the tablet once again.

Himari's eyes grew wide as she saw what Kaizo planned on presenting to Director Lao, She quickly turned to her head in Kaizo's direction. "Kaizo...This is!" she muttered.

"Yes. Yes it is." Kaizo said as he pushed up his glasses with a grin.

Johanna experienced a varied array of emotions in a short time, all clearly written on her face.
Disgust, at the Lamalice. This was the grotesque beings they were going to fight, at least DAMONs still looked kinda cool, these things just made her want to vomit.
Surprise, at the Fabularis' weapon. While seemingly effective it just seemed... Weird, they fed the Lamalice and then it went poof? She had expected something more to what she was used to, a big gun. Maybe one that fired a laser that just evaporated the monster, but feeding it?
Confusion at the explanation, even Juliette didn't seem to understand what this Negative energy even was and that was weird.

But all of these passed back into a stern look forward as Johanna's heels would join the chorus of clicks, she turned to face the Brigadier General and as he spoke her worries faded. He was right, it clearly worked as the Lamalice was no longer here she would leave the worrying about the details to her betters.
For now it was clear that the Directory believed this negative energy of the Institute worked and was their solution for these beasts. So it was her task to use that weapon to the best of her ability.

She relaxed her pose once the brigadier general was done talking, before turning to Pierce.

"Sounds like a good idea to me, although unless the tech crew messed with the inside of the Weissritter I should be fine on that front. But I've got something to look into so that'll be a good way to spend the time."

The new arrival was a bit of a surprise, let alone that it seemed to be a guy just a little under her age in a school uniform.

"Oh, hey." She wondered exactly what a student was doing here, maybe some special branch of the military academy from the looks of it. Maybe they brought in all the young blood for this mission.

"Well I said that mainly in my case. On the flight over, new parts were put on my Grungust, so I gotta make sure it's in tip top shape. If you got something to look into, I wish you luck on your search." Pierce says with a shrug and smirk.
Pierce looks at the newcomer up and down. Seemed like a stereotypical mecha pilot in an anime with the school uniform. That amused him but he didn't try to telegraph his amusement in case the person didn't understand it.
"Hello, newcomer." Pierce says with a friendly smile. "Name's Pierce. I pilot the Grungust over there." He speaks in a nonchalant and friendly tone as he gestured to the Grungust Type 03 in the hangar. "Who are you?"
Pierce put his hands in his pockets after retracting his hand that pointed towards his Grungust.

Onryo felt somewhat relaxed after seeing that these two weren't as scary as he initially thought. But after seeing how Pierce spoke and acted he couldn't help but question the man's sanity. But on the other hand after what Onryo had to go through today it felt good to see someone wearing a genuine smile.

"My name is Onryo Ishimura, I pilot the Mironga" Onryo said pointing at the black mobile weapon which his mother and father were still doing adjustments to. Onryo's expression turned somewhat.. Depressing at the sight of his parents and the mobile unit and there was a short pause before Onryo snapped out of it and quickly turned his attention towards Pierce.

"I hope we get along, Mr.Pierce" Onryo said with a polite smile completed with a bow. He then turned towards Johanna and gave her a bow as well.

"Ensign Johanna van den Berg. Pilot of the Weissritter." She said, after a moment of hesitation returning the bow, thinking that it was best to return the gesture given to her.

In her head Johanna filled in the details of what she believed where the presence of Onryo came from, guessing that he was her Asian equivalent as a military academy student. The Mironga seemed a peculiar enough unit to allow for such a thing, but maybe a bit too peculiar? She shook the thought away, guessing she'd figure it out eventually.

She wondered why the 'newcomer' as Pierce put it looked so sad when looking at his mech, it seemed like a great piece of tech and it wasn't like joining Upsilon was such a sad thing right.

"Something wrong Onryo?" She asked

Pierce's gaze moved from Onryo to the Mironga. "Interesting piece of tech." Pierce says.
Pierce sees Onryo's bow, turning his attention to Onryo again before returning his bow. Pierce kept his smile on his face, giving a nod to Onryo.
"I hope we get along as well." Pierce says with a nod. "It'll make working easier on both of us."
When Johanna asked if Onryo was alright, he tilted his head a bit in curiosity. He did notice that Onryo seemed somewhat depressed when he looked at his mobile weapon.
Could he be forced to fight? Or could he just hate fighting but have no choice? I guess it could be possible for it to hurt for him to pilot it?
More thoughts went through his head as he watched Onryo, quietly waiting for his answer.

"I-I'm fine...I just spaced out for a bit." Onryo reluctantly answered Johanna's question. "I was just thinking about a video game I was playing yesterday" Onryo said turning his eyes away from them and looked towards the Weissritter.

After a quick glance at the mobile weapon Onryo quickly recalled seeing something similar on a blueprint back at his father's lab, which made him wonder if his father was the one who designed Johanna's mobile weapon... But the boy quickly dismissed it as being a coincidence and admired the sleek design of the machine.

Onryo then looked towards the Grungust and couldn't help feel a little overwhelmed. The large mobile weapon looked like a warrior who was prepared to face any foe no matter how powerful they were. This brought a smile on Onryo's face since it reminded him of a video game he used to play back in middle school.

"Your mobile weapons look cool too!" Onryo said as he turned towards Johanna and Pierce.

Johanna's eye seemingly lighted up at the mention of video games, and despite her attempts to conceal her enthusiasm a hint of it was still heard in her voice.
"Oh which game?" She asked. Seemingly no longer worried about Onryo's previously sad look.

To say she was a fan of games would be an understatement, she owed a lot of her piloting skills to online games with similar controls, this being reinforced by her parents and especially her father who had used it to ease her into military service and mech piloting. Given the nature of Upsilon she had expected to have to lay off the games for a while, but this might just be her chance for entertainment.

Good thing she actually packed some of them just in case.

Pierce formed a proud smirk on his face at the compliment about his Grungust. "Why thank you." He says, his smirk forming to a full smile again.
"So you like games, huh? What's your favorite genre?" Pierce asks, an interested smirk on his face. "Better yet, what's your favorite game?" He adds.
Pierce was starting to like his situation more and more as he got to know the pilots he'll be working with. He regretfully didn't bring any games as he was thinking he'd be too busy working on the Grungust, fighting, eating, or sleeping.
I wonder if they'd be open to a night where we just get together and play games. That is, if we are able to. Who knows if we'll be able to have that kind of free time once we take off for space...
Pierce decided to just focus on the now, pushing those thoughts aside for now as he enjoyed socializing with his new friends.

Onryo was taken by surprise when Johanna asked about what game he was talking about. "Half Life 3" he said the first thing that came to his mind. "I was having a hard time beating a boss."

Then Pierce asked him about what his favorite game was. Which was an easy question. "Stardust Heroes!" Onryo energetically answered with a bright smile. "I love turn based RPGs"

Onryo was having a good time after what felt like an eternity. He had the chance to forget about the Lamalice and the whole reason of why he's here. He had the chance to finally cut loose from all the stresses that had been weighing down on him. At least for now...

"So what about you guys?" Onryo asked both Pierce and Johanna curious about what their favorite game was.

"Ah that's easy 'Front Mission: Ghost Squadron', slightly outdated by now but it basically has the controls of a Gespenst unit and I grew up on those realistic simulators basically." She smiled as she said this, then the realization hit her and she chuckled.

"Funny that I went from a game about shooting monsters in space with a Gespenst to shooting monsters in space with a custom Gespenst."

She thought about strategy games for a while, about what she liked and didn't like about them.

"And while I like some strategy games, I prefer the real time ones, more heat in the moment acting you know, means you gotta make up for mistakes even if you're the best in the world. Although the turn based ones do tend to have better stories from my experience."

"Favorite has got to be the Gundam simulator in Japan's Arcades. Controls are fun and I feel like I'm actually piloting one from the show." Pierce says with a smile, thinking back to his memories at the arcade.
"Other games I like are strategy games, both real time and turn based. I also like arcade-style fighting games. Always were fun to play with friends."
Pierce glanced at the two. "It seems we have similar interests. Who knew being pilots in the military would bring us nerds together?" Pierce jokes, chuckling a bit.

"Yeah... A pilot.." Onryo muttered. He wasn't really happy about being called a pilot. Considering he never really had a choice in the matter. But he made sure to hide his feelings about the subject and chuckled at Pierce's statement.

"So, what do you guys plan on doing before the assignment?" Onryo asked Johanna and Pierce.
