Ana hurtled forward into the nest of writhing tubules that was the core. Dozens of glass tendrils lashed out at her, morphing in mid-flight into barbed stingers - but all were burned away by the blazing flames wreathing her form. The beating heart of the thing, resonating nothing but pure malice, lay before her, and her gathered strike smashed into it with all the force she could muster - causing it to rattle, letting out a distinct chime like nothing else ever heard in the world, as a wave of reality-bending energy passed out from it. Miles away, moths turned to butterflies, blue cars turned red, and at least one unfortunate individual awoke to discover they now lived in a fast food restaurant, as ripples spread far and wide, ricocheting off chunks of reality, spreading chaos as they went.

Outside, the Scorpion suddenly halted as it's limbs began to regrow, freezing in place. There was a loud groan, and a crackling, as the Sphere's power suddenly vanished - and the weight that had been propping up its brute-force changes to the world went with it. All around the group, there was gentle tinkling, then a roar of broken glass as the crystal forest collapsed in on itself, a tidal wave of crushed glass whirling around them. The Scorpion itself crumbled into dust, it's limbs fading from view, it's hulking carapace crackling and breaking apart, its jeweled eyes turning dull before disintegrating themselves.

At length, all that remained was the Sphere.

It hung in the air momentarily, suspended by the last vestiges of its power... And then clattered to the ground, inert at last - or at least, stunned into submission for the time being, it's malefic, toxic aura now having faded completely. Who could tell where such a thing had come from? Had it been expelled from the heavens, propelled from the Moon like a pearl formed among the folds of dimensions? Or was it an artifact of something else, something sinister? Only time would tell. For the moment... The battle was won, and the truth... revealed.

All around them, nestled where the roots of the trees had once laid, were piles of bones and skulls - presumably those that had once lived in this great valley, pockmarking the now grey, listless landscape with craters full of grim remains. In the distance, the fields of Dimensional Energy Crystal still loomed bright, still a very real reminder that the challenges facing the Earth... had just begun in earnest.

The riot seemed to stumble as the scorpion disintegrated, falling to one knee for a moment before the jets took over to stabilize it. It shakily advanced on the Sphere, reaching out to touch it and stopping an instant away when a shout echoed over the comms.

"Wait! Last time you touched it that scorpion came out. Do not touch it until we're sure it won't make another." Katri's voice echoed over the terrain, being broadcast over the MARV's speakers as well as the various channels of communication. It's turret swung into position, warped beyond recognition but still clearly pointing at the sphere.

"Oh, calm down. This whole place is clear now - well, apart from the skeletons but they don't belong to anyone important - so we can probably just clean up and go home. As much as I want to go deeper, my Riot isn't going to last much longer and Emily seems to have forgotten her real machine... So if someone could be a dear and grab the rock we'll be done. Mission complete and all that." Dylan sounds relaxed, and almost dismissive of Katri's concerns. The last surviving Cornix perched itself on the Riot's shoulder, leaning into the Sphere to grant Dylan a better look. "Oh, yes... this is certainly an interesting discovery - The sooner we get this safely into DEI's clutches the better, I can just tell we'll make some fantastic discoveries. Who knows, I might even let you have some of the credit if your work proves to be exemplary."

The chime of the core seemed to vibrate Anastasiya to the very center of her being, resonating through the Gespenst's frame like nothing she had ever experienced. And then, she was gone - the woman's eyes widened as she was surrounded by a swirl of light and color. The pulse of reality-warping energy as she came into contact with the sphere was finally sufficient to overwhelm the many safeties built into System XN, and a myriad of worlds - dozens or perhaps hundreds of alternate dimensions, the likes of which humanity had not even begun to plumb - flashed by around her as she was hurled through space-time.

But the battlesuit had one final trick to play, and with a mighty roar it ripped a hole back to her home with all the power it could muster; from all appearances, she had been gone from this reality less than the blink of an eye. The Gespenst's interior winked into darkness after a moment, energy spent by the final escape from that dimensional whirlwind.

The unit hung in the air almost comically for a very long second before plummeting toward the earth, thrusters powerless. She'd survive just fine, but this was going to hurt all the same.

"...aw shiiii-"

As Ana catapulted through the dimensional planes, she might have felt a certain... Presence. Grey and black images of worlds flashed about her, but it was impossible to tell whether these were visions of the past, present, or future. One thing was for certain, though... In this strange place, hovering on the fringes of reality... She was far from alone. Yet, just as quickly as the sensation entered her mind, it disappeared as the laws of nature reasserted themselves with a vengeance.

Dropping back into reality with an almost comical plop, the Gespenst plunged towards the ground below - but instead, found her descent abruptly halted, the rolling skies suddenly stopped. Below, the hand of the Mass Produced Huckebein gently closed about the Gespenst, holding it carefully. Within the cockpit of her borrowed machine, a bandaged Eliza sighed.

"...Thank goodness."
